The year he turned 12, he won the Junior Orange Bowl boys’ 12s singles. In 2011 he became the first Korean to win the Orange Bowl boys’ 16s singles. In 2012 he reached the semifinals of a Hong Kong Futures event as the youngest Korean to do so.

In 2013 he became the first Korean male player to be runner-up in the Wimbledon boys’ singles, and the same year he received an ATP Tour wild card and stepped onto the senior stage.

In 2014 he won the Bangkok Open Challenger as the youngest Korean to do so, and took gold in doubles at the Incheon Asian Games. In 2015 he won four Challenger titles and ended the season ranked 51st in the world.

In 2016, after a four-month gap, he won the Kaohsiung and Hyogo Challenger events. The year he turned 21, he won the Next Gen ATP Finals.

The breakthrough yearThe year he turned 22, he beat Djokovic at the Australian Open and became the first Korean player to reach a Grand Slam semifinal. In April he rose to 19th in the world, and in October a foot injury ended his season.

In 2019 he reached the third round of the US Open and lost to Nadal. In 2020 he lost in French Open qualifying and then took a long break with a back injury. In 2022 he returned to the court in Korea Open doubles. In 2023 he returned to singles at the Seoul Open Challenger after two years and seven months, and also entered Wimbledon qualifying.

In 2024 he entered the Seoul Open Challenger, ranked 1473rd at the time. In 2025 he won three ITF singles titles, moved up to 518th in the ranking, and joined the Gimpo City team. In 2026 he won a singles match in the Davis Cup tie against India, and Korea reached the Davis Cup final stage for the first time.

Chung Hyeon (born May 19, 1996) made his senior debut on Jul 25, 2013, the year he turned 17, when an ATP Tour wild card was reported. He became known on Jan 24, 2018, the year he turned 22, when he won his Australian Open quarterfinal to become the first Korean player to reach a Grand Slam semifinal.
