Around 1966, he lost his father in a traffic accident. After his father, an overseas Chinese with Taiwanese nationality, died, his mother made a living selling makgeolli. In 1975, the year he turned 15, he graduated from middle school and began cooking as a kitchen helper at a Chinese restaurant in Seoul. Around 1979, he learned cooking from his master, Heo In, at the Chinese restaurant Geomok. His younger brother Yeo Kyung-ok joined the same kitchen afterward.
From 1995, he worked at Tower Hotel. In 2002, he won a silver medal in the individual event at the Malaysia international cooking competition. In 2007, he became chef of Hongbogak at Grand Ambassador Seoul. In 2008, he became an international judge of the World Chinese Chefs Association.
In 2014, he became president of the Korea Chinese Cuisine Association. In 2015, he appeared on tvN’s Wednesday Food Talk and SBS Plus’s Ganghodaegyeol Junghwa Daebanjeom. On Wednesday Food Talk he heard that his younger brother Yeo Kyung-ok was better known.
The breakthrough yearThe year he turned 58, he appeared on tvN’s Soomi’s Side Dishes as an original disciple. University News Network wrote that he became known to the public through cooking shows such as this.
In 2019, he was introduced on Geunyeodeul-ui Yeoyu Manman as one of China’s 100 master chefs. In 2020, he appeared in the Soomi’s Side Dishes 100th-episode special and met his master Heo In again on TV Is Loaded with Love after more than 40 years. In 2021, he became an endowed professor at Seoul Digital University, and his mother died. In 2022, his younger brother Yeo Kyung-ok also became an endowed professor at the same university.

In September 2024, the year he turned 64, he appeared as a White Spoon in Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars and was eliminated in his first match against a Black Spoon, the “Self-Made Chef.” He said on air that because his nationality is Taiwanese the reaction in Taiwan was large.
In 2025, he judged the team match in Culinary Class Wars 2 as a season 1 cast member. In 2026, he visited his disciple Park Eun-young’s restaurant and talked about the possibility of entering Culinary Class Wars 3, and released a Shanghai gourmet tour product with Hanjin Tour.
