The year he turned 7, he came up to Seoul, attended an acting academy and appeared in MBC’s Jumong as the salt seller’s son. In 2007, he played a boy castrated to become a eunuch in SBS’s The King and I. In 2010, he stood on the stage of the musical The Harmonium in My Memory, in a period when he moved between child acting and musicals.
The breakthrough yearThe year he turned 18, in April, on the “It’s Me (Pick Me)” stage in the first episode of Mnet’s Produce 101 Season 2, he winked at the camera and was called the Wink Boy, and he placed first in the week-one vote. In June he finished second and became a member of Wanna One, and on Aug. 7 he debuted at Gocheok Dome.
In 2018, he graduated from the School of Performing Arts Seoul, and in November Wanna One’s first full-length album, the group’s last, came out. In January 2019, he ended the group’s activities with its last concert, in March he released his first solo album O’CLOCK, and in April he won his first solo No. 1 on Music Bank. In September, he began acting as an adult in JTBC’s Flower Crew.
In 2020, he released his first full-length album MESSAGE and played the lead in the web drama Love Revolution. In 2021, he won the Male Entertainer award at the APAN Music Awards, played his first lead on a terrestrial network in KBS2’s At a Distance, Spring Is Green, and took first on The Show with “Serious.”
In 2022, he played Yeon Si-eun in Wavve’s Weak Hero Class 1. Edaily described the drama as the second act of his entertainment career. In 2023, he released his seventh mini album and won best new actor at the Blue Dragon Series Awards for Weak Hero Class 1.
In 2024, he played a dual role in KBS2’s Love Song for Illusion, moved to YY Entertainment in August, and made his screen debut in October in the indie film Beautiful Audrey. In 2025, he won the KBS Drama Awards excellence award for Love Song for Illusion, and Netflix’s Weak Hero Class 2 was released.
In 2026, the year he turned 27, The King’s Warden passed 10 million admissions on the 31st day of release. He released the single RE:FLECT after three years, won the Baeksang Arts Awards new actor award and the Director’s Cut Awards new male actor award, and starred in TVING’s The Legend of Kitchen Soldier.
