In 2011, the year she turned 16, she became a YG Entertainment trainee while growing up in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province. Before debuting, she appeared in TV commercials and had a bit part in the KBS drama The Producers. In 2014, she appeared in music videos for Epik High and Hi Suhyun.

The breakthrough yearOn Aug. 8, 2016, the year she turned 21, she debuted as a member of Blackpink with Jennie, Rosé and Lisa. She says she trained for more than five years. On Aug. 21, the group won first place on SBS Inkigayo for the first time, and in September she appeared in her first pictorial since debut.

In 2017, Blackpink released “As If It’s Your Last.” In 2018, she opened a personal Instagram account. In April 2019, she performed with Blackpink at Coachella, and in December she was named a Dior Beauty local ambassador. In 2020, Blackpink released its first full-length album, The Album.

In 2021, the year she turned 26, her actress profile was released, and in December she co-starred with Jung Hae-in in the JTBC drama Snowdrop. Her role is Young-ro. Snowdrop ended in January 2022, and in February her Instagram followers passed 57 million.

In 2023, she released “Flower,” the lead track of her first solo single Me. It entered the UK Official Singles Chart at No. 38, the highest ranking for a K-pop female soloist. In February 2024, she announced her own label, Blissoo, and continued filming a film and a series.

In February 2025, the series Newtopia was released and she put out the solo mini-album Amortage. The film Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy opened in July, and in October she entered the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time as a solo artist with “Eyes Closed,” featuring ZAYN.

In September 2026, the year she turned 31, she released “Click,” the pre-release single for her first full-length album.
