The year he turned 18, a showcase was held for BTS’s debut single 2 Cool 4 Skool. Jimin said he admired BigBang’s Taeyang and wanted to share a stage with him.
The breakthrough yearIn August 2014, the group released its first full-length album Dark & Wild, 1 year 2 months after debut. The title track was “Danger.” At the 2014 MAMA in Hong Kong, BTS performed “Danger,” and unlike the other members Jimin wore no shirt under his jacket, which drew attention. In an interview the next year, he said the tattoo he showed then foreshadowed the album The Most Beautiful Moment in Life.
In April 2015, BTS released the third mini album The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt. 1. In November, BTS held its own concert The Most Beautiful Moment in Life on Stage at Olympic Park in Seoul.
In September 2016, he ranked first among male idols in a popularity poll on Idol Star Athletics Championships. In October, the second full-length album Wings included “Lie,” a solo song he wrote himself. In 2017, he sang “Intro: Serendipity,” the first track of the mini album Love Yourself: Her. The New York Times compared the vocals of Jimin and Jungkook on the song to the mood of Justin Bieber. In September 2018, BTS appeared at a UNICEF-hosted event at the UN in New York. In December, he joined G-Dragon on The Guardian’s list of the top 30 boy band members of all time. They were the only two Asian artists on it.
In February 2019, he became the first Korean singer to present an award at the 61st Grammy Awards, giving Best R&B Album. In 2020, the fourth full-length album Map of the Soul: 7 included his solo song “Filter.” In August, “Dynamite” became the first song by a Korean act to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and stayed on top for a second week.
In March 2021, BTS gave the first stand-alone Grammy performance by a Korean act at the 63rd Grammy Awards, performing “Dynamite.” In October 2022, he took the stage at a concert supporting Busan’s bid for World Expo 2030 and met about 50,000 people.
The year he turned 28, he released his first solo album Face in March. It sold about 1.45 million copies in its first week, the most among Korean solo singers, and the pre-release single “Set Me Free Pt. 2” reached No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100. The title track “Like Crazy” entered the Hot 100 at No. 1, a first for a Korean solo artist. In December, he enlisted in the Army together with Jungkook, so that all seven BTS members would fulfill their military service.
In January 2024, at the ceremony marking the end of basic training, he received the division commander’s commendation given to the top-ranked trainee. In July, the pre-release single “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band” reached No. 88 on the Hot 100, and he released his second solo album Muse, whose title track is “Who.”
In June 2025, he was discharged with Jungkook after 1 year 6 months of service. In July, “Who” spent a 50th week on the Billboard Global 200, the second-longest run for a K-pop solo song after “Like Crazy.” In March 2026, BTS released its fifth full-length album Arirang and held a concert at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul the next day. It was streamed on Netflix, and 18.4 million viewers were counted on the day alone.
Jimin (born Oct 13, 1995) debuted with BTS on Jun 12, 2013, the year he turned 18, and drew attention on Dec 3, 2014, the year he turned 19, when he bared his abs on the 2014 MAMA stage. He released his first solo album Face in 2023, the year he turned 28.
