The breakthrough yearIn October 2017, the year he turned 18, J.Y. Park praised the skills of Bang Chan and Changbin on the premiere of Mnet’s Stray Kids, the reality show that selected JYP Entertainment’s new boy group. Nine members were confirmed that day as JYP’s next new group, and his name became known. That month he also performed “Hellevator,” a song he wrote with Bang Chan and Han, and he was already writing and composing before his debut.

The year he turned 19, he debuted with the mini album I Am Not. The music video for the title track “District 9” reached 4.27 million views in 24 hours, and the debut album was No. 1 on the iTunes album chart in 10 regions. In 2019, he released the mini album Cle: Levanter, whose title track “Levanter” was written and composed by 3RACHA, the team he belongs to.

In 2020, he released the first full-length album Go Live and its title track “God’s Menu.” As “God’s Menu” became very popular, the group began to draw attention worldwide. In 2021, the group won Mnet’s Kingdom: Legendary War, and the second full-length album Noeasy became the first album produced by JYP Entertainment to sell a million copies.

In March 2022, the year he turned 23, Oddinary became the group’s first No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Stray Kids were the third K-pop act to do so, after BTS and SuperM. In October, Maxident was a second straight No. 1 and the group became the first JYP act with a double million-selling album, and in December he released the solo track “Doodle” on SKZ-Replay.

In January 2023, he became a full member of the Korea Music Copyright Association. In June, the third full-length album 5-Star set a K-pop first-week record and reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for a third straight time.

In July 2024, Ate reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for a fifth straight time, and in August the group began its largest world tour yet, dominATE, at the KSPO Dome in Seoul. In December, Hop was a sixth straight No. 1.

In August 2025, he released the fourth full-length album Karma, and in October the group ended the dominATE tour, 56 shows in 35 regions, with a show at Incheon Asiad Main Stadium.

In February 2026, the year he turned 27, he was named the first global ambassador of the sneaker brand Autry. In August, he donated 100 million won on his birthday, and This & That became the group’s ninth No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The group became the first overseas male act to hold a solo concert at the National Stadium in Tokyo, drawing 140,000 people over two days. In September, the group held its StrayCity festival in Colombia and became the first K-pop act to headline Rock in Rio in Brazil. The number of songs registered under his name rose to 210.

Changbin (born Aug 11, 1999) became known when J.Y. Park praised his skills on Mnet’s Stray Kids on Oct 17, 2017, the year he turned 18, and debuted with Stray Kids on Mar 26, 2018, the year he turned 19. In 2022, the year he turned 23, the group reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for the first time with Oddinary.
