In 2021, while at Seoul Sports High School, she finished first in the first national team trials and began to get noticed.

The breakthrough yearThe year she turned 20, she finished first in the national team’s final evaluation in April and made the national team for the first time. In May, she won both the individual and team events at the Shanghai World Cup, and in June she won the individual event again at the Medellin World Cup. In August, she won mixed team gold at the World Championships in Berlin, her first medal at a major championship. In October, at her first multi-sport Games, the Hangzhou Asian Games, she won the mixed team, team and individual events, the first Asian Games archery triple in 37 years. In November, she won the team and mixed team events at the Asian Championships in Bangkok.

The year she turned 21, she received the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee grand prize in February. In July, she shot 694 in the Paris Olympics ranking round, a world record and an Olympic record.

At the Paris Olympics, she won the women’s team and mixed team events and then the individual event for three golds, and after the Games she was named a team MVP with Kim Woo-jin.

In October, she won four golds at the National Sports Festival, in the individual, team, 50 m and 60 m events. She lost a close quarterfinal at the World Cup Final, and in November she received the performance prize at the 62nd Korea Sports Awards for her Hangzhou Asian Games triple.

The year she turned 22, she finished first in the national team trials again in April. In May, wording in a social media post drew criticism, and she apologized four months later. In June, she won the individual and mixed team events at the Antalya World Cup, and in September she took women’s team bronze at the Gwangju World Championships but lost in the individual quarterfinals. In October, she won the Chung Mong-koo Cup for the first time.

The year she turned 23, she finished 10th in the national team trials in March and missed the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

Lim Si-hyeon (born Jun 13, 2003) made the national team for the first time on Apr 21, 2023, the year she turned 20, by finishing first in the final evaluation, and became known when she won three golds at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Oct 7, 2023, the year she turned 20. In 2024, the year she turned 21, she won three golds at the Paris Olympics as well.

    Took up archery in fourth grade at Noam Elementary School in Gangneung and went on to Bukwon Girls’ Middle School in Wonju and Seoul Sports High School. Still in high school that year, she finished first in the first national team trials and made a name for herself.

    Tops the national team trials, first national team place

    Finished first among women in the final second evaluation for the 2023 national team at Wonju Archery Field in Gangwon, ahead of An San, Kang Chae-young and Choi Mi-sun, and made the national team for the first time. The top four earned places at the Hangzhou Asian Games and the World Championships.

    Two golds at World Cup Stage 2 in Shanghai

    In Shanghai, China, beat Taiwan 6-0 in the women’s team final with An San and Kang Chae-young. In the individual event, she beat Choi Mi-sun to reach the final and then Kang Chae-young 6-0 for the title.

    Second straight World Cup individual title at Stage 3 in Medellin

    On the last day in Medellin, Colombia, beat Ángela Ruiz of Mexico 6-5 in a shoot-off in the individual final for a second straight World Cup individual title after Stage 2. She also beat China 6-0 in the women’s team final with An San and Kang Chae-young, but lost 4-5 to the U.S. in the mixed team final with Kim Woo-jin and took silver.

    Asian Championships women’s team title, Paris Olympic berths secured

    On the last day in Bangkok, Thailand, beat China 6-2 (56-53 60-55 53-55 57-55) in the women’s team final with An San and Choi Mi-sun. The win secured all three Paris Olympic women’s places for Korea. She took silver in the individual event after losing to Choi Mi-sun in a shoot-off in the final.

    Beat Nam Su-hyeon, the youngest member of the team, 7-3 in the women’s individual final for her third gold. After the Hangzhou Asian Games triple the year before, she won three golds at the Olympics too, the second Olympic archery triple winner after An San at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

    Social media wording controversy and an apology four months later

    Posted on Instagram, with a photo of a new bow case, a caption containing a word criticized as slang from the online forum Ilbe, then deleted it right away. On Sept. 23, four months later, she apologized to fans on social media, saying she had thought it was a Gyeongsang dialect expression.

    On the last day in Antalya, Türkiye, beat An San 6-0 (28-27 29-28 31-29) in the women’s individual final. It was her first individual title at an international meet that year. She also beat Germany 6-2 in the mixed team final with Kim Woo-jin for two golds.
