In 2011, he took part in adapting the film Sunny. In 2012, he wrote the source story for the film Never Ending Story.
In 2013, he released his first directed feature, Cheer Up, Mr. Lee. In 2014, he took part in adapting the film Tazza: The Hidden Card.
In 2015, he wrote the screenplay for Love Forecast and directed his first commercial film, Twenty. Twenty passed 1 million admissions in five days and drew 3.04 million in total. In 2016, he directed the web drama Be Positive. In 2018, he directed the film What a Man Wants and also took part in adapting Love+Sling.
The breakthrough yearThe year he turned 39, he directed Extreme Job, which passed 10 million admissions in 15 days and drew 16.26 million in total, making him the youngest director of a 10-million film. In August he started the drama Be Melodramatic, and in December he received the Incheon Person of the Year grand prize.
In May 2020, filming began on the film Dream. In 2022, he took part in adapting SBS’s Again My Life and served as executive director of Watcha’s Alice, the Ultimate Weapon.
In 2023, Dream opened, and Honey Sweet, for which he wrote the screenplay, opened that summer. In 2024, he directed Netflix’s Chicken Nugget.
In January 2025, he stepped down from directing the Netflix drama Genie, Make a Wish, and the series, released in October, reached No. 1 in Netflix’s worldwide non-English TV category. In 2026, he presented the short-form drama Ae Appaneun Namsachin and took part in a conference discussion on short-form drama.
