In 2009, the year he turned 25, he made his debut as a cartoonist by serializing Nobyeonga on Yahoo Korea. The next year he serialized Kian84 Danpyeonseon, a collection of short stories.
The breakthrough yearThe year he turned 27, he became known by serializing the Naver Webtoon Fashion King. It made real-time search rankings every Thursday, the day of serialization.
In 2012 he won an award at Mnet’s 20’s Choice for Fashion King. In 2013, Fashion King ended.
In 2014 he began the sequel, Bokhakwang, and also made a cameo on tvN’s SNL Korea. In 2016 he appeared on MBC’s I Live Alone as a guest and then became a regular.
In 2017 he took part with several other artists in Naver’s campaign webtoon Sunday Sangdamso. In 2018 he won the excellence award in the variety category at the MBC Entertainment Awards for I Live Alone. In 2019 he signed with Mystic Story, and issued an apology when an expression in Bokhakwang drew controversy.
In 2020 he apologized again when Bokhakwang drew controversy once more. In 2021 the story of Woo Gi-myung, which had run since Fashion King, ended after 10 years with episode 353.
In 2022 he began MBC’s Adventure by Accident, and at the end of the year won the Multiplayer Award at the MBC Entertainment Awards. The year he turned 39, he won the grand prize at the MBC Entertainment Awards. He was the first winner who is not an entertainer.
In 2024 he completed the full course of the New York City Marathon. In 2025 he began Netflix’s Kian’s Bizarre B&B. In 2026 he began season 2 of Kian’s Bizarre B&B.
