The year he turned 32, he started the science broadcast Gwakbang TV at the proposal of AfreecaTV. Before that his solo internet broadcasts had not drawn notable response. In 2017, he began hosting the podcast Gwajangchang, which he did for three years. In 2018, he opened the YouTube channel Unrealscience with colleagues. It stayed at about 300 subscribers for its first five months, and in December he published his first book, Gwedo’s Science Pretension.
In 2019, in an interview, he said his stage name Gwedo came from the satellite orbit he studied at university. In 2020, Unrealscience passed 240,000 subscribers, and he appeared regularly in Kim Seong-hoe’s G-sikbaekgwa: G-sik’s Night. In 2021, he won three awards, including Person of the Year, at the Chimtubu Awards held by the YouTube channel Chimchakman, and in October he served as a panelist on the live broadcast of the first Nuri launch. In August 2022, he said on the radio that he was married, and in October he published his second book, A Time That Needs Science. In November he joined the cast of Discovery Channel’s Apocalypse: Earth Defense Squad in Chaos.
The breakthrough yearIn April 2023, he appeared on tvN’s You Quiz on the Block, and from June he published the educational comic series Protect Science! The year he turned 40, in October, he became known as runner-up on Netflix’s The Devil’s Plan. The same month it came out that he had broken the ban on outside work while at a public institution, and he left the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity.
In June 2024, he published Protect Science! 4, and in September Unrealscience passed 1.16 million subscribers. In November he published My Second Textbook: Gwedo’s Science Revisited. In June 2025, he served as DJ of MBC Standard FM’s Radio Culture Center, and soon after was appointed a Yonsei University ambassador with the producer Na Young-seok. In July he was appointed specially appointed professor in the Division of Basic Studies at the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST), and in September he published My Second Textbook Season 2.
In March 2026, he appeared as the first guest on Netflix’s Manhakdo Jissi, and in April he appeared in JTBC’s Hidden Singer 8 in the episode on the singer Younha.
