On Aug. 19, 2006, the year he turned 17, he debuted in the five-member group BigBang at the YG 10th anniversary concert. At the group’s first solo concert that December, he sang his solo song “Try Smiling” and two trot songs. In 2007, Xports News writes, BigBang became a leading idol group with “Lies,” the title song of Always.
The breakthrough yearIn 2008, the year he turned 19, he appeared on Family Outing and released the solo trot single “Look at Me, Gwisoon,” and became known. At the end of the year, OSEN reported that he ranked first in a Bugs poll for the singer loved as the year’s “Hot character.” That September he began appearing in the musical Cats, and in December he co-hosted the SBS Gayo Daejeon.
In 2009 he released the new trot song “Big Hit.” In 2010 he released the solo song “Cotton Candy,” and news came that he was leaving Family Outing. In 2011 prosecutors decided not to charge him in connection with a traffic accident in May.
In 2012 BigBang began its Alive Galaxy Tour. In 2013 his first Japanese solo album, D’scover, ranked second on the Oricon weekly chart, and his solo tour drew 100,000 people. In 2014 D’slove ranked first on the Oricon daily album chart.
In 2015 BigBang’s “Bang Bang Bang” was released and topped the real-time charts of six music sites. In 2016 BigBang released the studio album Made. In December 2017 he finished the Last Dance concerts at Gocheok Sky Dome.
In 2018 he enlisted in the Army’s Igija Unit, and he was discharged the following year. In 2020 he re-signed with YG Entertainment. In 2022 his exclusive contract with YG Entertainment ended, and the next year he signed with R&D Company.
In 2024 he held his first solo domestic fan day and stood on the MAMA stage with BigBang as a full group. In 2025 he released his first domestic solo album, D’s Wave, and in December the new trot song “Hando-Chogua.” In 2026 he sang “Look at Me, Gwisoon” at Coachella and took the stage on BigBang’s 20th anniversary world tour.
Daesung (born Apr 26, 1989) debuted in the group BigBang on Aug 19, 2006, the year he turned 17, and became known when he released the solo trot single “Look at Me, Gwisoon” on Jun 16, 2008, the year he turned 19. In 2013, the year he turned 24, his first Japanese solo album, D’scover, ranked second on the Oricon weekly chart.
